Charrette Recap!

Cambridge Comes Together: Charrette Results & Plan Drafting

The Cambridge Comprehensive Plan Charrette was a milestone event in shaping the City’s future. Over five days, more than 375 residents, business owners, and stakeholders participated in hands-on design workshops, open houses, technical meetings, and open studio sessions.

The energy of the week led to 135+ people attended the opening hands-on session, 65+ joined the open studio, and 75+ came to the open house, with strong turnout across technical meetings covering topics like housing, natural resources, land use, transportation, and cultural preservation.

Community input focused on the issues and opportunities that matter most to Cambridge. Participants helped shape the Big 5 Ideas that will guide the Comprehensive Plan:

  1. Make Downtown a vibrant, multi-generational place with new businesses, art, history, and community programming.

  2. Create great new places across the city, from revitalized corridors to new mixed-use neighborhoods.

  3. Improve streets for walking and biking, ensuring safety, accessibility, and connections across Cambridge.

  4. Connect the City to the waterfront with expanded access, recreation opportunities, and a continuous boardwalk.

  5. Build for the future sustainably and equitably, addressing flooding, housing needs, and quality of life for all.

The charrette was a success thanks to the community’s active participation and creativity. Ideas generated during the week are now shaping the Comprehensive Plan draft, which is being developed this fall. A public draft will be released in Winter 2025, giving residents another opportunity to review, comment, and help finalize a plan that reflects Cambridge’s shared vision.
